My DAMN Opinion

Since the show aired at 12:40 a.m., well after prime time, SNL isn’t expected to be fined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).   This is just a case of not taking your time when reading lines for a sketch.  Reading too fast, or letting nerves take over could result in a FINE(for the television station) or the actor/actress getting less work because they are a liability on live TV. DAMN

What are some techniques an actor/actress can read lines “LIVE” without slipping up or forgetting lines?

• Derrion Albert
• 16 yr old
• Honor student
• Gang members allegedly tried to recruit him but he wouldn’t join
• Walking home from school and got caught up in the chaos going in the streets (lost his life as a result)

DAMN

• Police are studying the video and the individuals who did this to Derrion are going to face MURDER charges

My DAMN Opinion:

Something needs to be done in more cities than just Chicago, but after this incident something definitely needs to be done to reduce the violence that’s occurring on the streets of Chicago.  This video brings tears to my eyes to see this young man lose his life, and for numerous teens to now be brought up on charges that will put them in JAIL. DAMN

The mayor says it best in this quote:

“The criminal activity that terrorizes many of our neighborhoods must end and so must the violence that is taking a whole generation of young people from us,” said Mayor Richard M. Daley. “We can’t allow gangs and other criminals to tear our city or our neighborhoods apart.”

My DAMN Tip:

Don’t drink and drive or Don’t use drugs and drive.  You put other people’s life at RISK and you also run the risk of getting arrested and having this on your record. DAMN

• Actor Randy Quaid and his wife have been arrested in West Texas for allegedly skipping out on a $10,000 California hotel bill
• The felony warrant is for burglary, defrauding an innkeeper, and conspiracy

• They spent several hours in jail
• Both spent about $20000 a piece to post bail

My DAMN Opinion:

Bail ran them more than the cost of the hotel bill- DAMN, but of course they are wealthy so it probably didn’t make a type of DENT in their bank account.  I think the true effect was on how their fans and the public as a whole perceives them after this incident.  DAMN I would assume the fans PERCEPTION of the couple isn’t too good after hearing about this in the NEWS.

• June 2008, 17-year-old Samantha Elauf applied for a sales position at the Abercrombie Kids store at the Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa, Oklahoma
• Allegedly she was denied a job at an Abercrombie & Fitch clothing store at a Tulsa mall, because her head scarf violates their “Look Policy”

DAMN

• Lawsuit filed against Abercrombie & Fitch by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (last Wednesday)
• Lawsuit states these actions constitute discrimination against Ms. Elauf on the basis of religion

My DAMN Opinion:

When you are a large company like Abercrombie & Fitch you are definitely a target for lawsuits, but at the same time you need to make certain that you do what is necessary to prevent lawsuits from occurring in the first place.  This company probably gets legal advice from some of the top lawyers in the country, so I’m a little perplexed as to why this particular issue was never a concern in their  “Look Policy”.  I guess sometimes you have to learn the HARD WAY, but unfortunately this will cost them with MONEY and BAD publicity in the media AGAIN. DAMN

• August 2008 couple took a memory stick with 144 pictures in to a Wal-Mart located in Perorea, Arizona
• 8 pictures from the memory stick were of the couples “bath time photos” of the their daughters (during and after)
• A Wal-Mart employee noticed the pictures and alerted the police who in turn began an investigation into child pornography against the couple
• Lisa was suspended for 1 yr from teaching, children taken a way for a month, $75,000 in legal fees, and both were placed on a list for sex offenders

DAMN

• Suing the city of Peoria for defamation
• Suing Wal-Mart for failing to tell them that they had an “unsuitable print policy” and could turn over photos to law enforcement without their knowledge

Parents released this photo and others (other pics can be viewed on video below) to show the pictures of the girls are innocent

My DAMN Opinion:

Now there are only 4 pictures that have been released, but if they are anything like the pictures that have been released then what was done to this couple was unnecessary.  It’s hard to give an opinion with out seeing all the evidence (other 4 pictures), but from what I’ve so far the couple has a great case against the city and Wal-Mart.  The employee did the right thing by contacting authorities if this is what Wal-Mart encourages all employees to do in a situation like this, but once the authorities took a look at the photos common sense should’ve told them this wasn’t child pornography.  It’s good to ask about or know the policy of a store when having photos like this developed, but it’s just as important to use good judgment when accusing someone of a child pornography. (If you don’t you could end up with a lawsuit against your city or company). DAMN

• High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force in Polk County(Florida) stormed the home of convicted drug dealer Michael Difalco near Lakeland in March
• Officers stated the raid took 9 hours to gather Meth, weapons, drug paraphernalia and over $30,000 of stolen property

DAMN

• Security cameras that Difalco had in his home caught the officers playing the Nintendo Wii videogame for 9 hours

My DAMN Opinion:

You have to definitely be aware of your environment in this technological age we live in.  There are cameras EVERYWHERE and whatever you are doing whether good or bad could be recorded. The officers gathered the evidence they were looking for(Great Job!), but decided to spend quite a bit of time playing the nintendo Wii that was caught on video.DAMN

Should the officers be punished for what is on video?

DAMN

• Fertility clinic made a mistake and implanted another couple’s embryos into Carolyn
• It’s likely that the Fertility Clinic will have a lawsuit against them

My DAMN Opinion:

This is definitely a story that sends a message to fertility clinics around the world, and also makes couples aware of some of the risk involved in this procedure.  There are other risk, but there is the possibility of a mix-up if the fertility clinic mishandles embryo’s.  Fertility clinics need to take the necessary steps to ensure embryo’s are not mishandled, or they could end up with a similar situation that could lead to a major lawsuit. DAMN

• Shaheed Wright- 25yrs old
• Put several cocaine baggies in his 4yr old son’s jacket before he went to Clinton Ave Daycare Center
• Boy gave out baggies to his friends and told them it was candy (his father told him it was candy)
• 1 child ingested the cocaine but wasn’t sick (a total of 4 children were rushed to the hospital-all were ok)

DAMN

• Wright was charged with four counts of child endangerment and drug offenses
• Child-welfare authorities are investigating

My DAMN Opinion:

Wright stated he stashed it in his sons jacket after some problems with the cops, but there is conflict because his son stated his dad said it was candy.  Outside of the charges against him that will probably land him in prison he may also lose privileges to be around his son. DAMN

I’m surprised ACORN employees fell for this SET-UP, but it’s good they did because it exposed the character of the individuals caught on tape.   DAMN
